Recent Projects March- October

For the Stake Relief Society Meeting this month, I headed up a group of talented women to make 100 hot pads. These would be the take home gift for the women who attended the event. The theme was "Christ's Hands, My hands, Our Hands." Sis. Waldron gave me an idea of what she wanted: hand in heart in sage greens and lilacs. After calling up friends, finding decent fabrics within 30 minutes of here, writing sewing directions, delivering materials, a sewing exchange party, testing the functionality, and sewing them all together, we did it! 100 individually unique hot pads for the women who spent their Saturday enriching their lives.


Quilt for my dear Cristina's baby girl.
One of my best friends from childhood and college had her first baby last month. My mom was going to her baby shower and informed me about it 5 days before. I quickly whipped this quilt out for her and sent it UPS to Utah so she could open it during the shower. It all worked out and I personally thought it was one of my favorite baby quilts I've ever done. Cristina named her beautiful girl Hannah, which means flower in Japanese, hence the inspiration for this quilt.

Also, here are some of the baby quilts I've worked on with the talented women here in Mo-town.

These first two quilts, I designed, appliqued, and quilted. Katie J. helped cut out the flower petals, while Amy and Liz cut the front and back squares and Melanie and Michelle helped cut out the palm tree.

Quilt for Julie's baby. I guess you could say I designed the bug quilt, we all cut it out, Melanie appliqued it, Mary did the border and binding, and then Katie did the best quilting on it with adorable quilted bugs. (this pic is just the front before it was quilted...I'll try to get a finished pic.)


Quilt for Andrea's baby. This one was us four again (Mary, Katie, Melanie, and I). We each did a block, Mel sewed the blocks together along with the borders, and I did the binding and quilting.


Quilt for Liz's baby. Britta designed this quilt but 9 of us made an original square block following Britta's guidelines of contemporary squares and rectangles. Left to right, top to bottom it goes: Mary, Julia, Amy, Yolanda, Melanie, Amber, Abby, Katie, and Sharleen. Britta then sewed the blocks together, quilted the entire thing, then bound it. Wish you could see her darling quilt patterns, they were fabulous!


I was in charge of the food for Liz's shower and since this pregnancy I've been craving baked goods, I made some of my favorites. We enjoyed Apple Cinnamon Carmel Pecan pull aparts (Monkey Bread), Peach Cobbler, Banana Bread, Pecan Carmel Cheesecake, and Pralines and Cream Ice cream. It was so much fun getting together with friends to celebrate the new baby that will bless their lives soon.

3 Celebrations for our 3 year old!!! And 29 year old!!!

Jaxon and Doug's birthday are back to back, so their celebrations usually occur together.


Jaxon turned 3 and was blessed to celebrate 3 times. The first was a few days before his birthday with Grandma and Grandpa Mac, Jen, and Kim (east coast McArthurs, except Kate). We made his favorite food macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. His passion is DINOSAURS so we cut the grilled cheese into dinosuars, invited dinosaur guests, attempted a dinosaur cupcake cake (turned out pretty scary), and made dinosaur sounds all night long. Kim brought us some new Free Range Studio shirts, so of course we had to take a picture.

The next celebration occured on Doug's birthday, when we celebrated with all of my family in Utah. Jeannie made this adorable Dinosaur cake and I gave Jaxon his Dinosaur quilt I'd been working on till the wee hours of the morning. (I only slept a half an hour before we flew to Utah). It still isn't finished as I need to do the actual quilting on it, but at least he can use it during our trip. When we asked Jax how old he was, he showed us on his hand three fingers and accidentally touched the cake. So we got a fingerlickin good 3.I love watching Doug read cards from me. There's something so pure about his reactions. This time I scored a smile, some laughter, and even a tear! Babe I sure love you!



The final celebration occured when we drove to Idaho to be with the rest of the McArthur family. Corrie spoiled Doug with an amazing mexican feast, which included yummy tomales, 2 pies, and 1 cake. Doug was thrilled about celebrating with all his brothers. He loved going jack rabbit hunting with them, playing some football playstation, talking knives and guns, and just being together.

Baby Quilts

I've really enjoyed designing these quilts for 3 baby girls.

The cupcake one just popped into my head about 10am this morning, and Priscilla's baby shower was at 1pm today. So I had to be creative with fabric I already had.

The "AMY" quilt was for Melanie and I was inspired by her love for daisies and a picture that hung in her bathroom.

Emma told me that she loved flowers and pink and green, but her husband Will wasn't into "girly" girl stuff. So I tried to make it appeasing to both. Several other friends added their love with the smaller flowers. I love our quilting parties!

Katie Johnson's Baby Shower

Finally someone having a girl...and I could do a "girly" quilt! "Presents and Bows" was the inspiration for it. Britta, Abby, Emma, Cassie, and I each made a quilt square that looked like a present and added a bow to the top. I tried a new free hand spiral stitch for the quilting on this one.

Tri-baby Shower

In April, I threw a tri-baby shower for three beautiful pregnant women- Jami, Mary, and Kim. They all are due within a week of each other and are all having boys! With the help of many friends (Abby, Liz, Amy, and Tara...THANK YOU!", we had yummy salads and paninis (grilled sandwiches), accomplanied with fresh fruit kabobs and sherbert punch. To keep the tradition going, I made sure that each expecting mom got a quilt. The girls helped make part of each others quilt so they can have memories of their friendship. It was fun for me to take on three quilts in 6 weeks, as I've only been quilting for less than a year. To see their faces the day they saw their quilts for the first time was the best feeling ever. Who knew that pieces of fabric could make someone so happy...wait what am I saying...fabric always makes me smile...but in reference to giving. We had a great time!
